What keeps me from trusting?
"...I have learned that the true support of my life, the only possible security, is in my own being, and that inner work is the process I go through to access that intimate and sacred place." Ana Christina Flor
In a way, our whole lives are based on trust, yet there are residual moments when we find ourselves unsure of what lies ahead. We trust our cars will start, that the sun will rise, that the earth will turn. Our lives would come to a complete standstill if we did not trust.
We are aware of a promise broken, a hand let go, a certainty that turned out to be false. We feel ourselves pull back, bracing for what is to come, even when the mind diminishes the experience the body remembers. So the question "What keeps me from trusting?" is rooted in past events and memories and, honestly, in not recognizing the strength we already have to face the unknown.
The deeper question may be "What keeps me from trusting myself?"
Trust is something we build, slowly, in relationship with not knowing. Trust is knowing that whatever life places in front of us, we have the capacity to face it and be changed by it, rather than broken by it. What would it mean to trust not because we know what's coming, but because we've come to know ourselves in not knowing?

Note: eDialogue is an ongoing experiment that started in 2018 by Cafh members who wanted to share the practice of dialogue with a wider community. The dialogue process becomes part of how we relate—to ourselves and to others—pointing toward an expanding awareness. If you wish to learn more about Cafh itself, contact dialogue@cafhglobal.com
